Indicators 2.6.17–2.6.18
by Contact on 8 October 2026
Requirement
Indicator scope: waterbody Type B The UoC shall conduct monitoring of TN, TP and TSS upstream from the inflow point and downstream from the outflow point, following the method outlined in Appendix 8 (8.9), if one of the following conditions applies: – The site effluent flow contribution to the receiving water flow is >10%, as calculated following the method outlined in Appendix 8 (8.10); or, – The site effluent enters a river or channel <1km upstream of a Type A waterbody.
Indicator scope: waterbody Type B The UoC shall, if Indicator 2.6.17 applies, ensure there is <25% increase in TN, TP and TSS concentrations between the measured upstream concentration and the calculated downstream concentration.
How Do I Interpret This Requirement?
-
The methods for measuring TN, TP and TSS can be found under Appendix 8 (8.12).
-
The UoC can measure flow contribution, TN, TP and TSS upstream from the inflow point of the first site and immediately downstream of the outflow point of the last site in a waterbody.
-
This may reduce sampling costs when there are multiple sites discharging point source effluent releases to a Type B waterbody near each other.
Evidence of Implementation
-
Maps demonstrating the sampling locations are upstream from the inflow point and downstream from the outflow point.
-
Annual calculation of site effluent flow contribution to the receiving water flow based on the methodology in Appendix 8 (8.10).
-
Results of the site effluent flow contribution calculation, which demonstrate whether the contribution is greater than or less than 10%.
-
If Indicator 2.6.17 applies, results of measurements of TN, TP and TSS upstream from the inflow point and downstream from the outflow point.
-
Results of calculations to demonstrate there is <25% increase in site effluent flow between upstream and downstream sample sites.
Auditors Should Confirm
-
A map has been presented which demonstrates the sampling locations are upstream from the inflow point and downstream from the outflow point.
-
The UoC has conducted an annual calculation of the site effluent flow contribution to the receiving water flow.
-
Whether the site effluent flow contribution calculation presented by the UoC exceeds 10%.
-
If Indicator 2.6.17 applies, the UoC has presented quarterly results of TN, TP and TSS measurements from sampling locations upstream from the inflow point and downstream from the outflow point, whilst still following the sampling method in Appendix 8 (8.8 and 8.9).
-
Results of calculations presented to demonstrate there is <25% increase in site effluent flow between upstream and downstream sample sites.
