Indicators 4.5.12–4.5.13
by Contact on 8 October 2026
Requirement
The UoC shall demonstrate that the Weighted Number of Medicinal Treatments (WNMT) for sea lice is at or below the Entry Level (EL) per site, following the method outlined in Appendix 13 (13.6).
The UoC shall reduce the WNMT for sea lice by 25% every production cycle until the WNMT is at or below the Global Level (GL) per site, following the method outlined in Appendix 13 (13.6).
How Do I Interpret This Requirement?
-
By requiring sites to continuously reduce the number of medicinal treatments applied in treating sea lice, the indicators aim to incentivise the development and implementation of non-medicinal treatments (e.g. biological and mechanical control).
-
The ultimate vision is to no longer have to treat sea lice with medicinal treatments.
-
-
The calculation of the WNMT should be made and updated on an ongoing basis throughout the production cycle.
-
Some examples of how to count the WNMT are given below:
-
Treating an entire site (all cages) once, counts as WNMT = 1.
-
Treating 1 cage, out of 10, once, count as WNMT = 0.1.
-
Treating 1 cage, out of 10, twice (i.e. two unique treatments), count as WNMT = 0.2.
-
Treating 1 cage, out of 10, once as a ‘coupled treatment’, count as WNMT = 0.2.
-
Treating 5 cages, out of 20, once, count as WNMT = 0.25.
-
Evidence of Implementation
-
Records that demonstrate:
-
Medicinal parasiticide treatments, including the number of cages treated from the total number of cages in use.
-
The WNMT calculation.
-
Auditors Should Confirm
-
WNMT calculation is conducted as per the requirements in Appendix 13 (13.6).
-
WNMT results should be cross-checked with medicinal parasiticide treatment records.
-
-
WNMT conform with the Entry Level (EL), the 25% reduction or the Global Level (GL), as applicable.
