The application of EE in commercial fish farming setups is still very limited, due to various reasons. Some of them include contradicting scientific studies, hygiene and biosecurity concerns, inappropriate materials, a sound knowledge of the species ethology to avoid distress, lack of commercial-scale studies among others. ASC encourages both industry and academia to work together to enhance EE knowledge. While recognising EE benefits, ASC acknowledges the need for further research to ensure safe and visible implementation, while committing to adapting requirements as new knowledge emerges.
