Indicators 4.5.9–4.5.11
by Contact on 8 October 2026
Requirement
Scope: areas with native salmonids The UoC shall, during sensitive periods, maintain on-site sea lice levels below the threshold outlined in Appendix 13 (13.5).
Scope: areas with native salmonids The UoC shall notify the CAB if sea lice thresholds have been reached or exceeded (see Indicator 4.5.9). The notification shall be made by the next working day following the last day of sampling, according to ASC data submission procedures.
Scope: areas with native salmonids The UoC shall, if sea lice thresholds have been reached or exceeded, (see Indicator 4.5.10) reduce on-site levels below the threshold within 21 days following the last day of sampling. If the reduction is not achieved within 21 days, the UoC shall submit a formal notification to the CAB for cancellation of certification by the next working day.
How Do I Interpret This Requirement?
-
The following are examples of allowed reasons for delaying fish from being treated, thus affecting the site’s ability to reduce sea lice levels within the timeframe required by Indicator 4.5.11 (see exceptions to the timeframe for reducing sea lice levels in Appendix 13 (13.5):
-
Adverse environmental conditions:
-
Water temperature (i.e. below 4^o^C).
-
Low oxygen.
-
Algal bloom.
-
Jellyfish event.
-
-
Logistical considerations:
-
Strikes (trucks, cargo, freight, vessels, customs, etc.).
-
-
Evidence of Implementation
-
Records that demonstrate:
-
On-site sea lice levels are below the threshold outlined in Appendix 13 (13.5) during sensitive periods (Indicator 4.5.9).
-
The site notified the CAB within the next working following the last day of sampling if sea lice thresholds have been reached or exceeded (Indicator 4.5.10).
-
The application of an exception to the timeframe for reducing sea lice levels as per Appendix 13 (13.5) (Indicator 4.5.11).
-
The site’s process for notifying the CAB if sea lice thresholds have been reached or exceeded (Indicator 4.5.10).
-
Auditors Should Confirm
-
On-site sea lice levels are below the threshold outlined in Appendix 13 (13.5) during sensitive periods (Indicator 4.5.9).
-
The site’s process for notifying the CAB if sea lice thresholds have been reached or exceeded (Indicator 4.5.10).
-
That the site notified the CAB within the next working day following the last day of sampling if sea lice thresholds have been reached or exceeded (Indicator 4.5.10).
-
The rationale for any exception to the timeframe for reducing sea lice levels (Indicator 4.5.11).
